Quantum field theories in spaces with neutral signatures
We point out that quantum field theories based on the concept of Clifford space and Clifford algebra valued-fields involve both positive and negative energies. This is a consequence of the indefinite signature (p, q) of the Clifford space. When the signature is neutral, p = q, then vacuum energy vanishes and there is no cosmological constant problem. A question of the stability of such theories...
متن کاملKinematical Hilbert Spaces for Fermionic and Higgs Quantum Field Theories
We extend the recently developed kinematical framework for diffeomorphism invariant theories of connections for compact gauge groups to the case of a diffeomorphism invariant quantum field theory which includes besides connections also fermions and Higgs fields. This framework is appropriate for coupling matter to quantum gravity. The presence of diffeomorphism invariance forces us to choose a ...
متن کاملTopological quantum field theories, moduli spaces, and flat gauge connections.
: -We show how to construct a topological quantum field theory which corresponds to a given moduli space. We apply this method to the case of flat gauge connections defined over a Riemann surface and discuss its relations with the Chern-Simons theory and conformal field theory. The case of the SO(2,l) group is separately discussed. A topological field theory is linked to the moduli space of “se...
متن کاملHomotopy Quantum Field Theories
In this short note we provide a review of some developments in the area of homotopy quantum field theories, loosely based on a talk given by the second author at the Xth Oporto Meeting on Geometry, Topology and Physics. Homotopy Quantum Field Theories Homotopy quantum field theories were invented by Turaev [10], though the idea goes back to Segal’s discussion of the possible geometry underlying...
متن کاملTopological Quantum Field Theories
We intruduce a new invariant for σ models (and foliations more generally) using the even pairing between K-homology and cyclic homology. We try to calculate it for the simplest case of foliations, namely principal bundles. We end up by discussing some possible physical applications primarily in Quantum Gravity and M-Theory.
